A special thank you to Little Partners for sponsoring this post. As always, you all know that the options here are 100% my own.
To me holidays are for family traditions. The way you decorate the house, the songs you listen to and the food you make. I love this about the holidays. It brings back memories that hit almost all of my senses. For Izzy, I want her to expect certain decor, get togethers and food during holidays. Our family traditions are finally being molded this year because Izzy is old enough to really remember and experience it all.
Izzy will be helping with the cookies we leave for Santa and the cookies we serve during holiday get togethers. One of our traditions will be baking together. We made some seriously delicious sugar cookies that are out of this world. Softer and more flavorful than any sugar cookie you ever had.. or at least I think so. 😉
In order for Izzy to join in on our holiday baking this year she needed a little boost so she could work with me at the counter. Little Partners created a learning tower that is a MUST HAVE. Not just for the holidays but for everyday. Whether I’m cooking dinner or cleaning the dishes Izzy is typically more content being with me at the counter. She likes seeing what I’m doing and either “helping” or doing her own activity next to me.
Back to baking cookies…here is our delicious cookie recipe!
In the bowl of your mixer cream butter and sugar until smooth
Beat in extracts and egg
In a separate bowl mix baking powder with flour.
Add the mixture from step 4 to the wet ingredients (a little at a time).
Divide the dough into workable balls, roll out onto a flared surface and cut out cookies. For thicker cookies make them closer to 1/4 rather than 1/8).
Bake at 350ºF for 6-8 minutes. Let cool on cookie sheet for a couple minutes until stiff enough to transfer to a cooling rack. Once cooled, decorate!
Did you know the learning tower has different levels so as your child grows you can lower it to meet their height? Additionally, this Limited Edition Learning Tower includes removable side panels so us parents can choose just how much activity enclosure feel is best.
While the cookies were baking in the oven Izzy took full advantage of her Little Partners learning tower and colored on the chalk board. She doesn’t like chalk on her fingers so we use the chalk markers.
Let the decorating begin! Once the cookies were out of the oven and cooled we began decorating. Izzy definitely ate more candies than she added to the cookies. I added the frosting and let her add the details to the cookies. I must say, she is a cookie decorating pro! She was very precise and thoughtful about placing the candies. Pretty adorable isn’t it?
Izzy decorated these stars and I did the Santa and tree, how did we do?
Our family loved these cookies and the experience making them and yours will too! What are your family traditions you will be continuing or starting this year?
