3 Family Friendly Activities to try over the Holidays

Thank you Capital One for sponsoring this post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own. All information contained within is accurate at the time of posting.

Holiday breaks are great for family bonding. Whether you are home or visiting with extended family, try creating memories and truly enjoying each other. I’m sharing 3 family friendly activities for you all to try over the holidays with your loved ones. This is our first winter & holiday season back in the beautiful state of Maine. Let me tell you, we love looking at the snow and playing in the snow so I wanted to share some fun snow themed activities with you all.

Before I dive into the first activity, I want you to know that I understand budgets can be tight around the holidays. I don’t want you spending a fortune on these, so I linked some options I found at Walmart. I have the Capital One Walmart Rewards Card & I earn 5% back on all of my in-store purchases for the first 12 months, since I got my approval, when using Walmart Pay. My rewards helped us to get the snow blower we wanted, but we thought was just out of budget. What would you all do with your earned rewards? Think about the rewards you could earn during the holidays on gift and grocery purchases.

Sensory Snow Globe

What you will need: A Globe, Hot Glue Gun, Glitter, Tree Figure, Festive Buttons, Snowflake Buttons, Burlap

When choosing a globe, I decided on a plastic one. I knew for our family, we wanted it to be kid friendly. The first step when creating your snow globe is gluing the tree to the inside cover. Next fill the globe with glitter, buttons and anything else you want shaken around. Lastly, I added a little burlap to the cover to add a little farmhouse vibe. At Walmart I found everything needed to make this budget friendly snow globe. I linked some options above for you guys to look through from their website. If you get the Walmart app, you can create a list & save favorites for your globe to make you instore or online purchase easier. This is what I like to do when planning out my purchases for fun little activities and/or décor.

Indoor Snowballs

I’m definitely a believer that you are never too old for a snowball fight.

What you will need: Yarn & Scissors

Depending how many and how big you want your snowballs to be, will determine the amount of yarn to get. So be sure to plan ahead what you have in mind for the size and amount.

For a snowball size and fullness, shown on the right, you will want to keep wrapping with the yarn around your fingers 3 times more than what you see pictured. The more your wrap, the fuller your snowballs will be. You can wrap it around 2-3 fingers if you prefer, vs the 4. Next pull your hand out & put a separate piece of yarn through the hole made by your hand. Tie that string very tight. Then start cutting the looped pieces. Be careful not to cut the string used to tie it all together. Lastly, clean up the snowball so all of the pieces are a similar length.

These pom pom snowballs are super fun to play with and display as decor in a little basket or wooden crate.

On The Go Winter Play Dough set

What you will/may need: A Reusable Container, Play Dough, Snow Flakes, Glitter, White Pom Poms, Pipe Cleaners, Wooden Pieces, Animal Figures, Mini Trees & Faux Ice Pond

Homemade Play Dough: Mix all of the following ingredients together in a bowl. Knead with hands to ensure it’s fully mixed. If too sticky, add a small amount of flour. Roll in a ball and place in an airtight container/baggy. Allow the play dough to cool before having children play with it, as it will be slightly sticky until cooled. Also, we added some glitter to ours once it cooled. Ingredients: 1/2 cup Flour, 1/8 cup Salt, 1/4 cup Hot Water, 1/2 tablespoon Cooking Oil, 1 packet of Kool-Aid

These Winter Play Sets are great for travel or at home. It’s a great way to create and enjoy imaginative play. As a parent, it’s also really fun to sit back and watch your children build on their own. I linked above a bunch of fun options to go inside your Winter Play Dough set.

You may have noticed a snow theme to these activities. This is our first winter, since moving back to Maine. We are so excited about the snow! That is why I wanted to give all of you a little bit of snow to enjoy at your home this winter too. Some of you may think we are crazy to be excited about the snow, but we truly love it. There is something magical about being outdoors in the snow & watching it fall from the sky. The big negative of snow is the thought of shoveling the entire driveway.

Thanks to my Capital One Walmart Rewards Card I earned enough rewards for us to purchase a nicer snowblower for less than we originally budgeted for. Since becoming a cardholder, I have earned 5%back in store at Walmart using Walmart pay, and 2% back on travel and restaurants, plus 1% back every else the card is accepted. Get the most out of your money spent over the holidays.

Mother to mother & parent to parent, I urge you guys to apply for the Capital One Walmart Rewards Card. Appling is super quick & I know we are all crunched for time. Plus, your application is accepted you can immediately start earning 5% back by using Walmart pay in store with your Walmart app or online for the first 12 months. It’s so easy to use instore, I never have to pull out my wallet anymore! When checking out, I just open my Walmart app, tap Walmart Pay & scan the barcode. Guys, such a mom win for me! Plus, shopping for necessities has become a little bit more exciting. I mean, I can put my rewards towards a gift card and do something for me, such as getting a massage.

How do you make the most of your money? What would you use your rewards towards?

XO Eryka
